It boosts team spirit and instills confidence in the player’s teammates, knowing they have a talented individual who can contribute significantly to the team’s success. Here is a list of Indian cricketers who won the Man of the Match award on their debut match for Team India.

1) Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan made his Test debut for India on March 2013, against Australia in Mohali, India. His performance in that Test match was exceptional, and it remains one of the most remarkable Test debuts in cricket history. In the first innings of the Test, Dhawan showcased his aggressive style of batting and scored a scintillating 187 runs off just 174 balls.

His innings were filled with attacking strokes and he dominated the Australian bowlers, reaching his century in just 85 balls, which was the fastest century on Test debut at that time. For his exceptional performance, Dhawan was awarded the Man of the Match award in his debut Test match.

2) R Ashwin

Ashwin showcased his talent as an off-spin bowler and had an impressive debut with the ball in November 2011 against West Indies. He took a total of 9 wickets in the match, with figures of 3/81 in the first innings and an outstanding 6/47 in the second innings.

His 6-wicket haul in the second innings played a crucial role in helping India secure a comprehensive victory by an innings and 15 runs against the West Indies. His excellent debut performance marked the beginning of what would become a highly successful Test career for R Ashwin.

3) Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma’s Test career has seen remarkable success as an opening batsman, and he has scored several centuries and double centuries in the format. He has become one of India’s most prolific run-scorers in Test cricket and has played crucial innings in various Test matches, contributing to India’s success in the longest format of the game.

He made his Test debut in 2013 against West Indies and went on to score 177 runs. Rohit’s exceptional innings made him the talk of the town and he also won the Man of the Match award for the same.

4) Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer made headlines in the longest format of the game on the date he made his debut for Team India. He became the first batsman to score a century and a half-century on his debut in 2021 against New Zealand.

In the first inning, Iyer went on to score 105 runs in 171 balls at a strike rate of 61.40. In the second inning, Iyer scored 65 off 125 balls at a strike rate of 52. He was awarded the Man of the Match trophy for his exceptional batting.
