IPL 2024: Five Uncapped Indians to Watch Out For

IPL 2024: 5 Uncapped Indians to Watchout For

The IPL has emerged as a crucible for nurturing young cricketing talent in India. Beyond its glitzy T20 format and global appeal, the tournament serves as a breeding ground for budding cricketers.

IPL franchises provide a platform for talented youngsters to showcase their skills alongside international stars, exposing them to high-pressure situations.

The rigorous competition hones their abilities and instills a sense of resilience crucial for professional cricket. Moreover, the exposure to seasoned coaches and the camaraderie with established players contribute significantly to their development.

The auctions for the IPL 2024 were held recently and like every year, a few new faces became part of the tournament. Here is a list of 5 uncapped young Indians who will be seen this year at IPL with their talent in cricket.

1) Sameer Rizvi – Chennai Super Kings

Sameer Rizvi, the 20-year-old right-handed batsman from Uttar Pradesh, has taken the Indian cricket scene by storm. Nicknamed the “right-handed Suresh Raina” for his aggressive batting style reminiscent of the legendary cricketer, Rizvi has quickly become a hot prospect in the domestic circuit.

Rizvi made headlines in the UP T20 where he scored 455 runs at a strike rate of 188.80 in 9 innings. It is not just UP T20, Rizvi also continued his thrashing in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 and scored 277 runs at an average of 69.25 and a strike rate of 139.89. It is because of his performance, that Rizvi became the costliest uncapped player as Chennai Super Kings purchased him for 8.4 Crores during the auction.

2) Kumar Kushagra – Delhi Capitals

Kumar Kushagra, the 19-year-old wicket-keeper batter lighting up domestic cricket. Hailing from Jharkhand, Kushagra has become a hot property for his explosive batting and agile glovework.

His claim to fame came in 2022, at just 18, when he smashed a double century in the Ranji Trophy, making him the youngest ever to do so.

He followed that up with consistent performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, showcasing his all-format adaptability. Kushagra’s aggressive batting combines clean hitting with power, a potent mix for T20 cricket. His recent signing by Delhi Capitals for a staggering INR 7.2 crore in the IPL 2024 auction underscores his immense potential.

3) Shubham Dubey- Rajasthan Royals

Dubey’s journey began on the dusty grounds of Nagpur, honing his skills in the tennis-ball tournaments, the stepping stone for many Indian cricketing giants. His talent soon blossomed in first-class cricket, where his aggressive stroke play caught the eye of selectors. His defining moment came in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

His 221 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of nearly 190, including a blistering 58 off 20 balls as an Impact Player, announced his arrival on the big stage. This phenomenal performance led to a bidding war in the 2024 IPL auction, with Rajasthan Royals finally acquiring him for a whopping INR 5.8 crore.

4) Swastik Chhikara – Delhi Capitals

The youngest of the lot, Swastik Chhikara was purchased by Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2024 auction. Chhikara gained the attention of the IPL scouts during the UP T20 tournament as he became the second-highest scorer with 494 runs.

He reached the number with 3 centuries in 10 fixtures with a strike rate of 173.33. Delhi Capitals invested 20 Lakh rupees on the young gun for IPL 2024.

5) Ramandeep Singh – Kolkata Knight Riders

Ramandeep Singh – a 27-year-old all-rounder from Punjab has impressed everyone with his aggressive batting, deceptive medium pace, and electric fielding.

His all-round performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy – scoring 324 runs at a strike rate of 130 and picking up 14 wickets – was instrumental in Punjab’s triumph. This stellar show earned him a call-up to the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2024 IPL auction, where he was picked for INR 20 Lakhs.
