IPL 2023: Most Centuries by a Batsman in a Single IPL Season

IPL

IPL 2023 has emerged as one of the most exciting seasons of the Indian Premier League, captivating cricket fans with its thrilling matches and non-stop entertainment. As we eagerly await the final four teams that will advance to the playoffs, the tournament has been a testament to the incredible talent and skill on display.

One standout performer this year has been Yashaswi Jaiswal, who has showcased his immense potential by scoring a century and establishing himself as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket. Additionally, the resurgence of Ajinkya Rahane, who has regained his old form and contributed valuable runs for the Chennai Super Kings, has been another noteworthy highlight of the season.

In the batting department, Faf du Plessis and Yashaswi Jaiswal have emerged as the frontrunners in the highest scorers table, with just a one-run difference between them. However, a recent addition to the table is Suryakumar Yadav, who made a remarkable impact by scoring a century with an exceptional strike rate of over 200. Suryakumar Yadav’s outstanding performance has undoubtedly caught the attention of fans and has added an exciting dynamic to the race for the top scorers in IPL 2023.

Batters who have scored the most centuries in a single season of IPL.

1) Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has been the main attraction of Indian cricket for a long time and he is one of the greatest batsmen of his generation. IPL 2016 will be the most memorable season for the Indian batter. He smashed 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries in that season and scored a total of 973 runs which is still a record that no other batsmen have come close to.

Kohli played with a strike rate of 152.03 and his IPL 2016 innings included 83 fours and 38 sixes. However, it was disappointing to see Royal Challengers Bangalore not win the trophy as they were unable to complete the chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final game.

2) Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler returned to IPL in 2022 and played a stunning inning throughout the season. He took Rajasthan Royals to the finals but was unable to win the trophy. In IPL 2022, Jos Buttler scored 863 runs with 4 hundred and 4 fifties. His innings included 83 fours and 45 sixes. There were speculations that Buttler will surpass the total score of Virat Kohli in IPL 2022 but his luck ran out. Post IPL 2022, Jos Buttler became one of the most ferocious batters in T20 cricket and has helped England cricket to reach new heights.

3) Chris Gayle

Whenever cricket fans will talk about T20 cricket, Chris Gayle will always be part of that discussion. The universal Boss changed the whole image of West Indies cricket and became the most feared batsman in T20 cricket. During IPL 2011, Chris Gaye was on fire as he scored a total of 608 runs which included two centuries and three fifties. His strike rate was recorded at 183.13 and Gayle carried an average of 67.55. Gayle joined RCB as a replacement player but changed the fortune of the franchise completely.

4) Hashim Amla

Hashim Amla is known for his achievements in Test cricket but the former South African cricketer had a great outing in IPL 2017 season. He was able to score a total of 420 runs which included 2 hundred and 2 fifties at a strike rate of 145.83 and an average of 60.00. It was a big surprise for everyone in IPL as runs came from Hashim Amla’s bat, who is known for his orthodox batting style. His centuries came against Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions.

5) Shane Watson

Shane Watson has a special fan base from India as he has given some of the most memorable moments in IPL. Watson was one of the reasons behind CSK’s title win in 2018. He scored a total of 555 runs which included 2 centuries and 2 fifties. Watson recorded a strike rate of 154.59 and an average of 39.64. He also picked up 6 wickets in the season and one of his centuries came in the final game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
