Top 3 Contenders for IPL 2023 Trophy
The Indian Premier League (IPL)season 16 is coming to an end, and we are just a few matches away from determining the four best teams who will participate in the playoffs. Currently, the Gujarat Titans are leading the point table and have already secured their place in the playoffs. They are now awaiting confirmation of their opponent.
The Chennai Super Kings are currently in second place with 15 points and seven wins. They will be putting in a strong effort to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming week. The Lucknow Super Giants are in third position with the same number of points as CSK, but their net run rate is what sets them apart. In a surprising turn of events, the Mumbai Indians have displayed remarkable performances and secured the fourth spot in the Premier League point table.
This year’s IPL has been filled with excitement and entertainment, featuring closely contested matches among all the teams. Unfortunately, the Delhi Capitals were the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. Their performance was below par, which came as a surprising outcome for the team and their fans.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore are two teams with high aspirations to secure a playoff spot this year, based on their current standings in the tournament.
List of the top 3 teams who can lift the IPL trophy this year.
1) Gujarat Titans
The defending champions top our list as they have performed exceptionally well in recent weeks. Starting off with two consecutive wins against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, GT witnessed three consecutive losses in the first and the second week of the tournament. However, the franchise made a comeback and stunned everyone with their performance. With Shubman Gill in the right form and Mohammad Shami scalping wickets in every spell, the Titans are on the right path.
Mohit Sharma has also contributed to the bowling attack from the other end. Rashid Khan has come out as a strong allrounder whose experience is coming in handy in the lower middle order. The Titans are at the top of their game and will be hoping to reach their second consecutive final and lift their second consecutive trophy.
2) Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League. Last year was a nightmare for the franchise but this year, MS Dhoni and his men have resolved their issues in the team and have shown some positive signs. Starting off with a loss against Gujarat Titans, CSK bounced back immediately and came on the right track. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was a flop show in the last season, has come out as a strong opening batsman and has delivered as expected.
Ajinkye Rahane has also done wonders with his bat and proved himself valuable for the team. With Matheesha Pathirana picking up wickets with his pace, the spin duo Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja have come deadly with their variations. MS Dhoni is expected to lift his last IPL trophy this year.
3) Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants are left with only one game to play in the tournament. They had a slow start in the tournament with an inconsistent performance from the players but soon recovered from the damage and reached the third spot in the point table. There is still work to be done but if LSG plays with the right pace, we expect them to reach the final game and lift the trophy. The primary concern for the team is the injury of KL Rahul who has been ruled out from the remaining season of IPL.
