Weak Links of IPL 2023

IPL 2023 has reached an intriguing stage where all the teams have played numerous games, allowing them to gain a thorough understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses. With over a month elapsed since the commencement of the tournament, each match continues to deliver fresh thrills and excitement.

Currently, the defending champions, Gujarat Titans are leading the IPL 2023 point table with 14 points and 7 wins. The team witnessed a bit of inconsistency during the beginning of the tournament but soon gained momentum and developed themselves as league leaders. GT have witnessed a step-by-step transformation to reach the top of the point table.

Three points behind them are Lucknow Super Giants with 11 points and five wins. LSG are struggling with the fitness issues of the players. Skipper KL Rahul has been ruled out from the rest of the tournament and Karun Nair has been signed as his replacement. LSG are closely followed by Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals with 11 and 10 points respectively. Both teams are struggling to register wins consistently.

The weakest links in IPL 2023 are the teams standing at the bottom of the point table. We have compiled a reason for their weak performances in the tournament.

1) Delhi Capitals

It was a shock to see Delhi Capitals struggling in the new season of the Indian Premier League. They are currently at the bottom of the point table with only three wins. DC are struggling primarily because of two reasons. Firstly, their batters are completely out of form and David Warner has the whole pressure to score runs.

The talented Prithvi Shaw has also turned out to be a huge flop in the ongoing season. Secondly, the bowlers are turning out to be expensive. They are unable to control the run rate of the opposition and get timely breakthroughs in the match.

2) Sunrisers Hyderabad

It has been over two years, and the struggles of Sunrisers Hyderabad show no signs of abating. Despite parting ways with key players and bringing in new faces, the team continues to struggle to make an impact in the ongoing season of the IPL.

SRH is grappling with the inconsistency of their batters this year, particularly the opening lineup consisting of Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, and Rahul Tripathi, who are finding it challenging to provide a strong start for their team. As a result, the burden falls heavily on the skipper Aiden Markram and Harry Brooks.

3) Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders have been in the spotlight since the beginning of the tournament firstly because of Shreyas Iyer’s injury and then Rinku Singh’s exceptional performance.

However, the team is struggling at the 8th position in the point table. Their weak performance is primarily because of weak leadership by Nitish Rana. He does not have captaincy experience and never had an impressive IPL tournament. Another reason for KKR’s failure this year is the failure of their experienced players like Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, and Andre Russell.

4) Mumbai Indians

One of the historically strongest teams in the IPL, Mumbai Indians, has been facing difficulties this season and is struggling to secure a spot in the top 4. In a recent match against the Chennai Super Kings, they suffered a defeat, primarily due to a below-par batting performance.

Surprisingly, the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has been struggling to provide a strong start for the team, which is considered their weakest link at the moment. The absence of Jasprit Bumrah is evident in the bowling department, and the inclusion of Jofra Archer has not yielded positive results for the team. Overall, Mumbai Indians have had a disappointing performance this season, but there is still time for them to recover and improve their standing in the tournament.
