Dismissing a father-son duo in international cricket is a rare and memorable occurrence. It happens when a cricketer manages to get both the father and son out during different matches or innings in international cricket. 

To achieve that foot, a bowler needs to have a long career while maintaining consistency in his quality of bowling. There are very less incidents as well where a son has walked on the same steps as his father has played quality cricket for his nation.

In this article, we have compiled a list of 5 bowlers who have dismissed Father-Son duos in Test cricket.

Ian Botham – Lance Cairns and Chris Cairns

Ian Botham, the legendary English all-rounder, had the remarkable feat of dismissing both Lance Cairns and his son Chris Cairns in Test cricket. Botham dismissed Lance Cairns, the former New Zealand cricketer, during the third Test of the New Zealand tour of England in 1983. 

The match was played at Headingley, Leeds. In the first innings, Botham bowled Lance Cairns for 10 runs. also had the opportunity to dismiss Chris Cairns, the son of Lance Cairns, during the first Test of the New Zealand tour of England in 1999. The match was played at Lord’s, London. In the second innings, Botham bowled Chris Cairns for 14 runs.

Wasim Akram – Lance Cairns and Chris Cairns

Pakistan’s Sultan of Swing, Wasim Akram also had the opportunity to achieve the fleet of dismissing a father-son duo in Test cricket. Wasim Akram dismissed Lance Cairns during the second Test of Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in 1985. 

The match was played at Eden Park, Auckland. In the first innings, Akram bowled Lance Cairns for 12 runs. Akram also had the opportunity to dismiss Chris Cairns during the second Test of Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in 2002. The match was played at Basin Reserve, Wellington. In the first innings, Akram bowled Chris Cairns for 18 runs.

Simon Harmer – Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Chanderpaul

Simon Harmer dismissed both Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Chanderpaul in Test cricket. He dismissed Shivnarine in his Test debut in 2015, and he dismissed Tagenarine in 2023. 

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Harmer in the first innings of the first Test between South Africa and the West Indies in January 2015. Harmer bowled a delivery that turned away from Chanderpaul, and he was caught at first slip by Hashim Amla. 

Tagenarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Harmer in the second innings of the second Test between South Africa and the West Indies in March 2023.

Mitchell Starc – Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Chanderpaul

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Starc in the first innings of the first Test between Australia and the West Indies in December 2012. Starc bowled a delivery that swung in late and hit Chanderpaul’s pads in front of the stumps. 

T Tagenarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Starc in the second innings of the first Test between Australia and the West Indies in December 2022. Starc bowled a delivery that swung in late and bowled Chanderpaul out.

R Ashwin – Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Chanderpaul

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Ashwin in the second innings of the first Test between India and the West Indies in November 2011. Ashwin bowled a delivery that turned away from Chanderpaul, and he was caught at first slip by Gautam Gambhir.

T Tagenarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Ashwin on the opening day of the first Test between India and the West Indies in July 2023. Ashwin bowled a delivery that spun away from Chanderpaul, and he was clean bowled. Unfortunately, both father-son duos are featured thrice in the list.
