Team India’s ODI World Cup XI: Players Likely to Miss Out

Team India looks complete but Three players who still might not find space for ODI World Cup

As the ODI World Cup comes closer, Team India finds itself in a good position with a combination of the right players. One of the primary reasons for India’s readiness for the ODI World Cup 2023 is its impressive squad. The team boasts a perfect blend of experienced veterans and young talents.

The top order, led by the prolific Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, remains a formidable force. These two stalwarts have consistently delivered match-winning performances and are expected to lead from the front. Additionally, the emergence of young talent like Shubman Gill provides depth to the top order.

In the middle order, Team India will have the likes of Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. Ishan Kishan displayed his calm and composed side and handled the pressure of scoring runs against the ferocious bowling attack of Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2023.

Skipper Rohit Sharma has shown trust in him and Kishan will be part of the middle order. Hardik Pandya also looks in good shape as a dependable allrounder. Shreyas Iyer recently gained his form back against Australia in the 2nd ODI and gave a sigh of relief to the team management. KL Rahul, since his comeback from the injury, is also gaining a slow but steady momentum in the ODI format.

India’s bowling attack is equally impressive, with a mix of lethal pacers and crafty spinners. Jasprit Bumrah, who is arguably the best fast bowler in the world, leads the pace battery. His ability to bowl yorkers at will in the death overs is invaluable.

Alongside Bumrah, the likes of Mohammed Shami and Mohammad Siraj provide the much-needed experience and variety in the bowling attack. The spin department is in safe hands with the wrist-spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

However, there are still three big names from team India who won’t find themselves playing in the prestigious tournament. Below are the names and reasons for why they will be warming up the bench in the World Cup.

1) Shardul Thakur

Team India will have three primary pacers and that will include Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammad Siraj. The trio are playing exceptionally well and they have done wonders in the recently held ODI matches. It is for the same reason that Shardul Thakur won’t see himself playing all the fixtures during the tournament.

Thakur has been part of 12 innings for team India in 2023 and has picked up 19 wickets while maintaining an average of 23.68. He has not been as effective as the other three pacers against stronger teams like Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa and hence the team management would prefer him to wait for the right time to make it to the ground.

2) Suryakumar Yadav

It has been a year of ups and downs for Suryakumar Yadav. He is an exceptional player when it comes to the T20 format and has contributed to difficult situations for Team India.

However, when it comes to the ODI format, Surya has not seen the light of the day. In 2023, Surya has scored 275 runs in 12 innings at an average of 25. With KL Rahul’s experience and Shreyas Iyer’s current form, it is impossible for Surya to make it to the playing XI for the whole tournament.

3) Axar Patel

Axar Patel is currently out of action because of his back injury during the Asia Cup 2023. However, he is expected to recover and make it to the ODI World Cup on time. Even though he recovers, Axar might not see himself playing for the team considering Kuldeep Yadav in the right kind of form.

Skipper Rohit Sharma would want Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav to be his prime spinners and Axar might be used in comparatively fewer matches during the tournament.
