His exceptional innings contributed significantly to the West Indies‘ overall score of 790 runs, with only three wickets lost.

Pakistan, unable to match that formidable number, fell short, managing to score only 320 runs. Garry Sobers‘ remarkable performance continues to be remembered as it played a pivotal role in bringing West Indian cricket into the spotlight on the international stage.

Sri Lankan cricket is definitely struggling with its poor quality of performance these days. However, the country has produced some of the best players in the world who eventually became legends and an inspiration for young cricketers. Mahela Jayawardene is one of them who took Sri Lankan cricket to the next level and helped the team to develop its game. He is one of the fourth-highest scorers in test cricket match.

In 2006, while playing against South Africa in the Test format, Mahela Jayawardene scored 374 runs in 572 balls with the help of 43 fours and one six. His exceptional display of batting helped the Sri Lanka squad to reach a score of 756 runs at a loss of five wickets.

3) Brian Lara – 380

When discussing the best batsmen in the world, it is impossible not to mention the legendary Brian Lara. The West Indies maestro has left an indelible mark on the cricketing world, setting records that remain unbreakable to this day. In 1994, Lara made history by surpassing Garry Sobers’ record during a match against England.

He astonishingly scored 375 runs, including a staggering 45 fours. Lara’s remarkable innings propelled the West Indies to a total score of 593 runs in the first innings. Despite England’s strong fight, they managed to match the West Indies’ score before being all out. The match ultimately ended in a draw. His incredible performance stands as a testament to his exceptional batting prowess and his enduring legacy as one of the greatest batsmen the world has ever seen.

2) Matthew Hayden – 380

Australians ruled in international cricket in every format of the game from the late 90s to the late 2000s. They have the best batting lineup in those years which eventually became the nightmare for some of the best bowlers in the world.

Matthew Hayden was responsible to destroy some of the best bowlers in the world. While playing against Zimbabwe, Matthew Hayden scored 380 runs and created a new record in the Test format. His innings included 38 fours and 11 sixes.

1) Brian Lara – 400 not out

Another record by Brian Lara and with this number he tops the list. While playing against England in 2004, Brian Lara scored 400 runs and remained not out. His innings included 43 fours and 4 sixes. He tops the charts with this number and it has been more than 18 years, no other batsmen have come near to Lara’s score and he is still the highest scorer in test cricket history.
