Why Former PM Imran Khan is arrested

Imran Khan

Imran Khan, the former Pakistani captain, and former Prime Minister was detained in Islamabad on Tuesday. He had a planned appearance at the Islamabad High Court to request bail for various cases that mandated his attendance. However, local media sources indicate that the arrest was unrelated to the specific charge he was scheduled to address in court on Tuesday.

The World Cup-winning skipper is facing allegations of engaging in acts of corruption and corrupt practices, as per the provisions outlined in a section of the National Accountability Ordinance.

The legendary allrounder was taken into custody around 2:15 pm local time, reportedly by the Pakistan Rangers, a paramilitary federal law enforcement corps in Pakistan. Local media sources indicate that he was subsequently transferred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further inquiry regarding the allegations against him.

Additionally, Section 144, a law from the colonial era that prohibits large gatherings, has been enforced in the capital city of Pakistan. Despite that, his arrest sparked violent demonstrations by his angry supporters across the country.

The Rise of Imran Khan as a Cricketer

Imran Khan made significant contributions both as a player and a leader. He was born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, Pakistan. Imran emerged as a talented all-rounder, excelling in both batting and fast bowling.

His cricketing journey began in the 1970s when he made his international debut for Pakistan. Imran quickly established himself as a promising fast bowler, known for his impressive pace and ability to swing the ball. He also showcased his batting skills, often delivering crucial innings for his team.

Imran Khan’s career reached its zenith during the 1980s. He captained the Pakistan cricket team from 1982 to 1992 and led them to their first-ever World Cup victory in 1992. Imran’s exceptional leadership skills, strategic acumen, and ability to inspire his teammates were instrumental in Pakistan’s triumph. He played a pivotal role both as a captain and a player in that tournament, leaving an indelible mark on cricket history.

Not only was Imran Khan an accomplished cricketer, but he also had a charismatic personality that made him a revered figure in the cricketing world. His determination, passion, and commitment to the sport earned him respect and admiration from fans and fellow players alike.

His Entry into Politics

After retiring from cricket in 1992, Imran Khan transitioned into a career in politics. He founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and eventually became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018. While his political achievements are beyond the scope of his cricketing career, it is worth mentioning that his success as a cricketer played a significant role in shaping his popularity and public appeal.
