The World Cup-winning skipper is facing allegations of engaging in acts of corruption and corrupt practices, as per the provisions outlined in a section of the National Accountability Ordinance.
The legendary allrounder was taken into custody around 2:15 pm local time, reportedly by the Pakistan Rangers, a paramilitary federal law enforcement corps in Pakistan. Local media sources indicate that he was subsequently transferred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further inquiry regarding the allegations against him.
Additionally, Section 144, a law from the colonial era that prohibits large gatherings, has been enforced in the capital city of Pakistan. Despite that, his arrest sparked violent demonstrations by his angry supporters across the country.
