Top five Indian batsmen with the highest individual scores in the ODI

The ICC ODI World Cup is scheduled to go on the floors during the October-November window in 2023 and we are looking for five Indian batsmen who have impressed with some big scores in the past. All the major teams will be divided into two groups and by the end we will have a champion lifting the 2023 World Cup trophy. In 2019, England won their first-ever ODI World Cup and came out on top but considering their recent performances in the ODI format, the defending champions might not see the light during the ongoing tournament. However, team India is again on the list of top contenders to lift the trophy after 12 years.

In any ICC event, Team India always comes out as a tough competitor to lift the trophy. Indian sub-continent is known to produce some of the best players in the world who are talented enough to face any kind of challenge at the international level.

We have compiled a list of the top five Indian batsmen with the highest scores in the ODI format.

1) Rohit Sharma – 264 Runs

The current Indian leader and the opening batter Rohit Sharma is known for his ferocious style of play in the limited-over format of the game. In 2014 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata, Rohit Sharma played an outstanding innings, scoring 264 runs. This remarkable innings remains the highest individual score by a batsman in ODI history. Rohit Sharma’s innings included 33 boundaries and 9 sixes, and he faced 173 deliveries. It was a truly historic and record-breaking performance by Rohit Sharma. Sharma’s strike rate was recorded at 152.60 which is an exceptional number in the ODI format.

2) Virender Sehwag – 219 Runs

Virender Sehwag is the most ferocious batsman the Indian sub-continent has ever produced. He was known for his soul-cracking shots and risk-taking abilities in the limited-over format of cricket. Virender Sehwag played a scintillating innings against West Indies in 2011 at Indore and scored 219 runs. This remarkable inning by Sehwag remains the second-highest individual score in One Day Internationals (ODIs). His innings included 25 boundaries and 7 sixes, and he faced 149 deliveries. Sehwag’s aggressive and attacking style of play mesmerized the spectators and propelled India to a massive total.

3) Ishan Kishan – 210 Runs

Ishan Kishan is one of the youngest talents who is making noise with his bat in Indian cricket. With the senior team, Kishan has not got much playtime but during a tour to Bangladesh in 2022, Ishan got an opportunity to showcase his talent and he did it in style. Ishan scored 210 runs in 131 balls at a strike rate of 160.31 and gave a solid start to the team with Virat Kohli. Even though Team India lost the series, Ishan stole the spotlight.

4) Rohit Sharma – 209 Runs

Skipper Rohit Sharma makes it to the list again as he scored 209 runs while playing against Australia in November 2013 at Bangalore. His innings included 12 boundaries and 16 sixes, and he faced 158 deliveries at a strike rate of 132.27. Rohit Sharma’s double century helped India post a massive total and eventually win the match. It was a memorable innings by Rohit Sharma and a standout moment in his ODI career.

5) Rohit Sharma – 208 Runs

There is no doubt that when it comes to the ODI format, Rohit Sharma is the most dangerous batsman from the Indian subcontinent. He has three high scores at his name and in 2017, he came very close to breaking his record. In the ODI match between India and Sri Lanka held on December 2017, in Mohali, Rohit Sharma played an extraordinary innings, scoring 208* runs. His innings included 13 boundaries and 12 sixes, and he faced 153 deliveries. Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten double-century helped India post a mammoth total and secure a comfortable victory.
